frequently asked questions

can i bring my old stuff to you?

We're happy to take a look at your stuff and pick out what we want and what we think we can sell in the store.  But we're not a drop off site like other second-hand stores. We're looking for antique, vintage, and truly unique items. Please call ahead to see if we're interested before hauling your stuff.

Do you offer consignment?

No, we do not offer consignment. But we are willing to buy specific items from you to sell in the store.

what merchandise are you interested in?

Great question! We're interested in items with history and a story to tell. Here's our hit list of favorites:

  • advertising items
  • folk art
  • Mid-century modern
  • coffee memorabilia
  • vintage clothing (for adults)
  • beer memorabilia
  • old, vintage signs
  • architectural salvage
  • small, old furniture
  • SDSU/Jackrabbit items
  • Brookings-related items
  • South Dakota items
  • music and movie posters
  • rugs, old telephones, typewriters (old journalism items)
  • early holiday (Halloween, Christmas)
  • vintage band tees (or any music memorabilia, including records and record players)
  • Pyrex and Fire King
  • Cast iron
  • costume jewelry

At the moment, we've got plenty of depression glassware, China sets, chairs, crystal and all-purpose glassware. We've also got a healthy stock of framed artwork, such as religious, fruit, floral, and baby subject matter. Please contact us first before bringing in your items.

Can I donate items?

Yes, absolutely! As long as it's merchandise we're interested in. We're a small business and appreciate any way you can help us save a buck or two. Just give us a call beforehand at 605.697.7377.

Are there any other places interested in buying my stuff?

You can check with the other antique stores in town. The Antique Mercantile is located at the corner of Main Avenue & 3rd Street in downtown Brookings. Rabbit on the Rail is located at 219 1st Street South (a hard right after the railroad tracks in the old co-op building). Bits of Yesterday in Arlington is another antique vendor mall in the business of buying/selling/trading.

These other shops in Brookings are also great for donating gently used household items:

  • Home Again (proceeds benefit Teen Challenge of the Dakotas)
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore
  • Goodwill
  • Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter
  • Bargains on Main
